12 - Manufacturing / BOM
Coming soon - collecting first references

Work orders and BOM without spreadsheets, with lot traceability from raw material to finished part.

Multi-level BOM for every item. Opening a work order pulls material from stock automatically. Every operator, every lot, every serial number recorded. Planners see actual work centre capacity, not guesswork.

Why it hurts

Without a system you do not know what you consumed, who worked on it, or whether capacity is actually enough.

Excel WO

"Work orders are in Excel, we deduct material by hand." That is the sentence we hear at most manufacturing companies in the first conversation. Stock is wrong because deductions are delayed or forgotten. A customer complaint arrives and there is no answer.

lot ?

"We do not know which lot of material was used for which serial number." In most industries - food, pharma, automotive supply chain - traceability from lot to serial number is a legal requirement. Without a system this means sifting through paper records under time pressure.

capacity ?

"The planner does not know the actual capacity." Work centres are scheduled by estimate, not by measured standard times. Delays pile up, priorities change manually, because nobody has visibility over the actual loading.

What you get

From BOM to finished part - with every consumption, every operator and every lot recorded.

Multi-level BOM (Bill of Materials) for every item or sub-assembly
Work orders with work centres, operations and standard times
Capacity planning by work centre (loading in %)
Traceability: serial number, lot, opening date, operator
Automatic material deduction from stock when a work order opens
Work order status: planned, in progress, completed
Material consumption and yield report vs. standard
Quality checkpoints per operation (checkpoint after each step)
Barcode and QR code scanning at workstations (Android)
Integration with WMS (warehouse) and accounting (Minimax, Pantheon)

Comparison

Before: Excel work order and manual deduction. After: BOM and an automatic flow from order to stock.

Before
Excel work order quantities entered by hand Manual deduction forgotten / delayed Lot traceability ? no record ? stock wrong complaint = panic
After
BOM multi-level ✓ Work order status: in progress ✓ Stock deducted automatically ✓ Lot / serial recorded ✓ Operator + checkpoint ✓ QC check per step ✓ WMS / Accounting ✓
When is the right time

Not every company is ready for a manufacturing system - and that is fine.

Before we agree anything, we will tell you honestly whether you actually need this system. Three scenarios:

Small company
fewer than 5,000 SKUs, fewer than 20 WOs/month

Manual management is still feasible. Excel work orders work when the team is small and the article range is limited. A system would add cost without proportional benefit. Our recommendation: sort out stock first with WMS, then add the manufacturing module when volume demands it.

Mid-size company
5,000+ SKUs or batch traceability required

This is the right time. When you have more than 20 work orders per month, must maintain batch traceability (food, pharma, automotive supply), or when planning delays are already affecting deliveries - the system pays for itself within 6-12 months.

Large company
complex BOM, multiple plants, EDI

You need an ERP (SAP, Infor, Microsoft Dynamics). Our manufacturing module is sized for the SME segment - it will not replace a full ERP for multi-tier BOM chains, MRP II planning, or EDI exchange with OEM customers. We will tell you if you have outgrown our scope.
